Once again, Sam Smith has not failed to please. His voice inevitably sounds beautiful in his How Will I Know cover of Whitney Houston's classic.
He's slowed things down and, through the minor keys used, has made things a little sad - but that's expected from Sam Smith, lets be honest. Sam Smith evidently has a talent that allows him to turn this song into a full on reflective love-song-type thing, which actually makes me understand the lyrics of this song.which originally stemmed from a seemingly lost woman singing about whether some guy loves her in a rather upbeat way. Funny when you think about it, don't 'cha think?
Slightly contradicting the point just made, I love this cover for the pure fact that he covered a powerful song sung by a very powerful woman. His choice to cover Whitney Houston stemmed from his admiration of powerful and dominant women, and that is something I find really admirable.
Usually I don't agree - or advise - on covering a real classic, but for some reason I don't care with this. It's a new way to hear this song, in a way that doesn't make me hate him. This is incredible and it's on repeat.
