PYLO | The Woman EP
I don't think I have been this excited for an EP release since my childhood days of Steps (which, if you knew me back then would mean you know just how i'm feeling towards Pylo's new EP release of "The Woman"). This would also show how much my musical taste has (thankfully) developed itself.
So a bit about Pylo... they are a 5-piece band and are from Bath, UK, and are mainly influenced by Pink Floyd and Radiohead (or any artist that is able to portray a broad and emotive sound. Their debut song was released in the April of 2013 and called "Enemies". I don't know how i've only just come across them now, but i'm thankful for coming across them at some point in my life. I personally think that they have reached their objective of producing music that has an emotive sound through all of their songs.
Pylo reminds me of The Hurts a little bit. I can't quite work out whether it is because of the way they dress, the constant drum beats that are used or the lead singer's (Mathew) voice. Then when I think about it again, it's probably all of those things rolled into one.
After compiling my research on the band I can definitely say that they are nowhere like Elbow (I know this because I have been following that band since they came onto the music-scene) nor do they "sound like Robbie Williams doing an impression of Bono whilst fronting Coldplay". To be honest, if you don't like someone, which is the general vibe I receive from this article, then just don't review them. Simple really.
The leading song from the new EP is called "Young" and definitely reminds me of U2's "With or Without You" - more from the drum beat in the back, the guitar chords and the voice. So basically, this song is completely U2-esque. This song is good, but most definitely not my favourite.
The song "Woman" (which surely should be the EP's leading song!?!) is my favourite from this EP and is a good slow dancing' kinda' song. But, if at a gig, please remember to substitute slow dancing for casual side to side swaying to avoid any weird looks. Now, what I most love about this song is that there is almost two halves to it. The first half is slow (to slow dance, everybody loves a good slow dance), with the second half speeding up and getting a bit more rocky. Maybe it's a metaphor...who can't like a metaphor. The lyrics are beautiful and i'm sure that someone out there can relate to them. I mean, it's not like no one has ever loved someone. It seems like this is/was/once was the situation and hence, music was made.
This is definitely my favourite from the new EP and cannot wait to see it performed live, providing I book myself a ticket!
Now carry on, listen to more of their music/download the EP and book yourself a ticket to one of their gigs.
