Oh hae SJae

You know you haven't blogged in a while when you log in to your emails to see hundreds just sitting in your inbox. Granted, some are spam and are merely trying to sell Kleenex, but there were a good few in the way of music submissions. And of those submissions, one just happened to be this.

So, before I go on, it seems that UK pop sensation, Sam Sparro, from way back when I was a teenager, is making a welcome comeback.
I've been waiting for the moment where I can gently nudge 'Black & Gold' out of my Spotify playlist for a newer model for a very long time. And, much like his hit back then, this new single, entitled 'The Avenue' with Mercury-nominated, British born SJae (AKA Sammy Jay), does not disappoint.
Within the first three seconds of the song, you'll be up dancing. If you're Mickey Flannigan's "out out" when this song comes on, then you'll probably be begging your friends to come dance with you. But let's face it, they're probably not going to need begging.

So, let's hear it shall we?

It is catchy, groovy and memorable; the main three characteristics to an everlasting dance song. But then again, I can't deny that all of the songs on this EP don't possess these traits. All of the singles are truly a work of art and guaranteed to be on your Spotify playlists, iPods (if you're lucky enough to not have lost it...) and a third music-playing-contraption that I can't quite muster up for my list.

To me - and this may be because my point of reference is skewed and directs all points east towards this decade, with thanks to my parents may I add - I can't help but be reminded of the 80's. For me, this isn't a bad thing, as I happen to think that most (not all, I've purposely left some leg room for the more questionable songs of the decade) of 80's music actually has something going for it.

Looking at the remainder of SJae's EP, she has also collaborated with Raphael Saadiq on a single entitled "All I Think About" which, I must say, was a pleasant surprise. As a fan of Raphael Saadiq, this single seems far away from his older music that I know and love. but that doesn't mean to say that I don't love this song... because I really do.

In fact, it was only yesterday that I played this song on full blast as we drove around with the warm sun beaming down on us. It most certainly had me in the mood for summer. So much so that I'm now wishing for a heatwave.

The first 5 seconds of this song would have you fooled into thinking that this was a classical piece of music, but this merely highlights SJae's skills in being able to fuse a mix of characteristics from an array of genres together.

It is safe to say that I am loving this EP and I expect to hear these two songs in the charts sometime very soon, hopefully.

So, who is SJae?

SJae is none other than the UK's first female music producer, having worked with the likes of Booty Luv, Mis-teeq, Pussycat Dolls and Rod Stewart - to name but a few - and has been hailed as 'best in the business' stateside.
