We Are The West

I recently received an email from a lovely gentleman working for a PR agency in LA (I can only dream all the dreams of visiting California) that briefly introduced me to the We Are The West duo, so I listened. I liked. Now I write.

We Are The West compromises of John Kibler and Brett Hool who hail from LA and help bring a new meaning to the concept of "underground" and "garage" music - in the sense that it is basically literal - but it does not actually describe the genre in which they play. I would personally describe their sound as being melodic, beautiful, poetic (if you listen to the lyrics) and calming. If I had to put them into a genre, it would most definitely be folk - what with the acoustic guitars, accordion, underlying harmonies and general softness of everything. The Saturday before each full moon, the duo host a concert series in an underground parking garage beneath an office building (or, to us British, you'll know that as being merely just a car park) where they host a multitude of acts - both established and up and coming - to offer (what I can only imagine as) a visually and phonetically beautiful evening. The photos I've seen of said evenings in a car park look absolutely nothing like a car park but, instead, a spontaneous concert in the living room of your grandparents' living room that still has every tie imaginable to the interior magazines of the 1970s and 1980s.

Over the last 2 years, We Are The West have been releasing, in 4 instalments, parts of a self titled album. Currently there are 3 parts, with the last set to be released later in 2015. The most recent release was 'Regards', which was released in November 2014.

For me, my favourite on the Regards instalment has to be The Thin Red Line but, having listened to the entirety of their Soundcloud my favourite, by far, is The Trilogy, which is a bit more upbeat with more of a blues-y guitar.

We Are The West have already made quite the name for themselves in the LA area and are considered as "the LA music scene's best kept secret". I'm sorry to have to be the one breaking the news, but I think the word may (or may not, you can decide) be out.

Ladies and gentlemen, enjoy.
